CLEP - College Level Examination Program

The Live Video Education Directory has thousands of Colleges and Universities that offer students the ability to test out of certain classes when they have a thorough understanding of the material. The College Board conducts the CLEP exam for this purpose.

The College Board (CB) also conducts the AP and SAT tests. We recommend the CB for our College Level Internet Courses Exams because our students can test out prior to course completion if they feel they have mastered the course material. The CLEP exam is only 90 minutes. The exam fee is $80 per course exam, but consider that course tuitions are nearing eight hundred dollars, the test out fee is a "No Brainer." Remember, all of our college level internet courses (thousands of them) are totally Free. Another Secret - to score high and gain additional course credits; for an additional $10 fee, you can take an essay portion, to boost your score. Do it! Live Video Education doesn't receive any affiliate or commission testing referral fees - Just Do it and Save a Lot of Time and Money!

A word of caution - Take the Test Out Exam only if you have a good grasp of the material. Some Colleges are looking for high scores and they grant higher credits for higher scores.

You can always re-test if you fail, but it will cost you another exam fee. In any event, the exam fee is just a fraction of what On Campus courses cost.

There are 33 exams covering many different topics. Students of any age can take the CLEP. If you are a professional looking to update your skills or shift careers, This is the Way!

Course Credit is accepted by two thirds of all Colleges and Universities.

AP - Advanced Placement

The Advanced Placement (AP) is a program created by The College Board offering examinations to high school students. American Colleges often grant placement and course credit to students who obtain high scores above a certain number on the examinations.

Many high schools in the United States offer AP courses, however, the College Board allows any student to take any examination, regardless of participation in its respective course. Therefore, home-schooled students and students from schools that do not offer AP courses, have an equal opportunity to take the examination.

Exams can be taken at the end of the AP Course. The exam is offered at $89. The College Board offers Practice Exams to prepare for the AP Exam.

AP tests are scored on a 1 to 5 scale as follows:

  • 5 - Extremely well qualified
  • 4 - Well qualified
  • 3 - qualified
  • 2 - Possibly qualified
  • 1 - No recommendation

Grading the AP exam is a long and complicated process. The multiple choice component of the exam is scored by computer, while the free response and essay portions are scored by trained Readers.

The Chief Reader for each exam then decides on the grade cutoffs for that year's exam, which determine how the Composite Scores are converted into the final grades. During the process a number of reviews and statistical analyses are performed to ensure that the grading is reliable. The overall goal is for the grades to reflect an absolute scale of performance which can be compared from year to year.

Some colleges use AP test scores to exempt students for introductory coursework. Each college's policy is different, but most require a minimum score of 3 or 4 to receive college credit. Typically this appears as a "CR" grade on the college transcript, although some colleges and universities will award an A grade for a 5 score.

In addition, completing AP courses help students qualify for various types of scholarships. According to the College Board, 31 percent of colleges and universities look at AP experience when making scholarship decisions.

These tests were developed by the Government to serve the Military, its Free for them, but they charge civilians.

About 2000 Colleges accept these exams and may offer course credit for more advanced level work (unlike the CLEP and AP which are designed for undergraduate course credits). DSST Exams are unique and have little overlap with CLEP exam titles.

DSST offers 38 Exams with over 1000 Testing Centers. It costs $80 for each exam.

These three testing have all been evaluated and approved for College Credit by the American Council on Education's College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE Credit).
